As domestic air travel resumes amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, the Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has stepped up its standard operating procedures (SOP) in all its airports. MAHB have assured passengers that additional precautionary measures such as consistent disinfection and sanitisation activities have been implemented to ensure the safety of travelling passengers.
MAHB states that it is compulsory to wear a face mask at the airport at all times; passengers will not be permitted to enter the terminal without a face mask.
All MAHB airports have enforced limited entry and exit points to control visitor flow. These entrance and exits are also called ‘check points’ where passengers will be screened for the use of face masks and body temperature. Check the Malaysia Airports website for detailed information on checkpoint locations.
Departing passengers have to go through temperature screening before being allowed to enter the airport terminal building. Passengers with body temperature of 37.5ºC and above will not be permitted to continue their journey.
During this period, only passengers with a valid flight ticket or boarding pass are allowed to enter the airport terminal; meeters and greeters are not allowed. For klia2 terminal, meeters and greeters are only allowed access up to gateway@klia2 shopping mall (screening will be performed by shopping mall security team).
Social distancing markers have been put in place at all airports, including the travelators, escalators, lifts, seating areas and other common spaces. All travellers are requested to observe these markers and maintain at least 1m gap with others at all times.
Airport travellers are urged to practise good personal hygiene and wash their hands more frequently with water and soap. Hand sanitisers are also placed throughout the terminal for convenience of use.
Due to the implementation of the additional safety procedures, MAHB also advised passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before their scheduled flight to avoid any inconveniences.
Travelling during a pandemic may be very different. Nevertheless, let’s adjust to the new normal of airport travelling and adhere to all safety procedures to curb the spread of the virus, together.
